10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for most of us. But it should be done. As the winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your house?
The exterior of your house could likely use some tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your house in Athens, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save a lot of money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they are not cleaned.

Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build their homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t cause you much of a headache, but second and third floor windows can be a bit trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your house, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem counter-productive since you’ll still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or another material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it in the winter since you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in bad condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are common roof problems in Athens. While you are cleaning the exterior of your house, it is an excellent time to clean your home’s roof too, but you’ll have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your house. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best method for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and let it be. This will kill any organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your house is likely what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and will probably motivate you to spend more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You’ll soon be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is a great chance to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment should all have an assigned place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the exterior of your house so much more throughout the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a major impact on the overall look of your house.

Get rid of weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.

You can probably finish all of these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Athens Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
